Pullback to VWAP, confirmation, stop below the swing. Size it so one loser is a small dent.
The problem

Most eval accounts don't pass. The firms say so themselves.

Two of the biggest futures prop firms publish their numbers. Read them before you buy evaluation number four.

83%

of Topstep Trading Combines started in 2025 didn't pass.1

83%

of Tradeify evaluation accounts (Aug 2025 – Jul 2026) didn't pass.2

3

evaluations: the median a Tradeify participant initiated over that same period, and resets cost extra.2

83% = 100% minus each firm's published pass rate per account (16.8% and 17.2%), rounded. Per-account figures; many traders buy several evaluations. Topstep also reports 51.8% of individual participants passed at least one Combine, and Tradeify reports 40.3%. Sources in the footer.

Why accounts die

It's rarely the market. It's the fine print.

Four rules end more evals than bad entries ever will. Each one has its own page in the cheat sheet.

Trailing drawdown

The floor follows your peak, sometimes including open profit. Give back a winner and the cushion's gone.

→ p.6

Oversizing

Max contracts allowed isn't max contracts affordable. At full size, two losers can end a 50K account.

→ p.7

News rules

Allowed in the eval, banned when funded, at some firms. CPI morning is a bad time to find out.

→ p.3

Consistency rules

One heroic day can raise your target or block a payout. Boring days are the strategy.

→ p.2

The cheat sheet won't pass an eval for you. It just stops the rules from being the reason you didn't.

Before / after

Guessing the rules vs. knowing them.

Guessing

  • "$2,000 drawdown" feels like a $2,000 budget
  • Size = whatever the platform lets you click
  • Find out about news rules from a violation email
  • Buy the eval with the biggest discount
  • One great day, then a raised target
  • Reset. Repeat. Reset.

Knowing

  • Know your floor in dollars before the open
  • Size from the stop: contracts = risk ÷ (points × $2)
  • Flat before CPI, NFP and FOMC when your firm requires it
  • Pick the firm whose rules fit how you trade
  • Boring, repeatable days that fit consistency rules
  • A plan for the setup, the stop and the day

The Eval Game Plan: pass the eval, then keep the account.

Seven boring steps. Boring is the point. Each one points to the page in the cheat sheet that walks you through it. No step guarantees a pass; together they stop the rules from being the reason you fail.

  1. Pick the right firm & account size

Drawdown type matters more than account size. A $2,000 end-of-day floor and a $2,000 intraday floor are different games. Match the rules to how you trade.

    → Firm comparison, p.2–3
  2. Size for the drawdown, not your ego

Risk about 5–10% of your max drawdown per trade, so 10–20 losers in a row still don't end it. Contracts = risk ÷ (stop points × $2) on MNQ.

    → Sizing table, p.7
  3. Set a personal daily stop

Pick one well inside the firm's daily loss limit, like 2–3 losers. Hit it, close the platform, go touch grass.

    → Risk habits, p.5 & p.7
  4. Know the fine print before day 1

Consistency rules, news restrictions and minimum trading days. Write them down for your firm before you place a trade, not after the violation email.

    → Rules & traps, p.2–4
  5. Trade one simple setup

One setup you can describe in a sentence beats six you half-remember. Example: trend day, pullback to VWAP, confirmation candle, stop beyond the swing. Skip the chop.

    → VWAP setup, p.14–15
  6. Protect the cushion

Once you're up, size down. Don't press. On trailing drawdown, the floor follows your peak, so giving back a big winner can leave you closer to the edge than when you started.

    → Trailing drawdown, p.6
  7. Run a first-week routine

Before each session in week one:

    • Write today's floor in dollars
    • Set your daily stop (2–3 losers)
    • Check the news calendar vs. your firm's rules
    • Size from the stop, rounded down
    • One setup only. No setup, no trade.
    • Flat before the firm's close. Journal it.
→ How to not blow your eval, p.5

What you get

17 pages. Two parts. Zero fluff.

Part 1 is the rules. Part 2 is the playbook. Every rule is sourced and dated; anything we couldn't confirm is labeled UNVERIFIED instead of guessed.

p.2–311 firms, side by side (50K)Drawdown type & size, daily loss limits, profit targets, consistency, payouts, fees, news rules, scaling. So you pick the firm whose rules fit you, not the one with the loudest promo.
p.4The trap at each firmThe one rule per firm people learn the expensive way, in one sentence. So you know where the landmine is before you step on it.
p.5How to not blow your eval10 plain-English risk habits. So your worst day is a bad day, not the last day.
p.6Trailing drawdown, explainedIntraday vs. end-of-day vs. static, when it locks, with a drawn example. So you understand the #1 account killer.
p.7Position sizing: MNQ math + table$2 a point, the 5–10% rule of thumb, 25K–150K sizing table. So you can take 10 losers in a row and still be here.
p.8–10Candles & 11 patternsAnatomy, plus what each pattern suggests and where it actually matters. So a hammer in the middle of nowhere stops looking like a signal.
p.11–13Trends, exhaustion & volumeHighs and lows, trendlines, structure breaks, fading moves, what volume confirms. So you stop buying the top of the move.
p.14–15An easy VWAP setupA simple rules-based pullback setup, when to skip it, and risk rules tied to prop firm limits. So you have a plan, not a vibe.

Questions

The "yeah, but" section.

Is it up to date?

Every firm rule was read from the firm's own website or help center on October 17, 2026, and each source is listed and dated in the PDF. Firms change rules without notice, so always confirm on the firm's site before you pay.

Which firms does it cover?

Topstep, Apex Trader Funding, Take Profit Trader, MyFundedFutures, Tradeify, Bulenox, TradeDay, FundedNext Futures, Alpha Futures, Earn2Trade and Elite Trader Funding. One comparable 50K plan each, so the numbers line up.

Is this a signal service?

No. No signals, no trade calls, no predictions. It's education: the rules, the risk math and a simple, rules-based example setup. The playbook charts use synthetic data for illustration.

Will this help me pass?

It can help you avoid failing on the rules, which is where a lot of accounts end. It can't trade for you, and nothing guarantees a pass, a payout or a profit. Prop firm evaluations are simulated and most traders don't pass.

Is delivery instant?

It's automatic. Your PDF is emailed to the address you enter at checkout, usually within a few minutes. Nothing after 30 minutes? Email [email protected] and we'll resend it.

Can I read it on my phone?

Yes, it's a standard PDF that opens on any phone, tablet or computer. The pages are landscape and the comparison tables are dense, so turn your phone sideways or use a bigger screen for pages 2 and 3.

Are you affiliated with these firms?

No. The Tick Ladder isn't affiliated with or endorsed by any firm listed, and this edition has no affiliate links. If partner codes are ever added, they'll be clearly labeled.

What's the refund policy?

Because it's an instant digital download, all sales are final. If your file is broken, missing or has an error, we'll fix it and resend it free. Email [email protected] with your checkout email. See the Terms.
